You Say Yes, I Say NO!
The final essay we have to write for class is the Rogerian Argument.
This week’s blog post is to brainstorm Naysayers for our topic. Brainstorming,
not that hard to do, I think.
The topic for my essay is the fact that American children
are falling behind the rest of the world in education. I was able to find a lot
of items during my research for the article. Now I need to take the original essay
and revise, adding the naysayers. What could be the opposite argument of the research
I did? Well here goes nothing……
One could argue that the tests are not fairly representing
all students.
Some countries only test certain parts of their students.
In most cases memorization can yield higher test scores than
actual learned items.
Or the emotionally charged, it can’t be true because we are
the best country in the world.
I will re-read my Informative Essay and try to look for
several spots where the research I've done can be rebutted. I think it will
actually be harder to find the research that is opposite of what I have already
stated. I do however understand that stating the inverse viewpoint can actually
make my argument stronger. State it, acknowledge it exists, and let people know
their viewpoint, then convince your audience why your point is the strongest. I’ll
pull it all together and see how it reads.
Jason I feel the same way about my paper. I feel it will be harder to dind the opposite of the postive facts about my paper. I do feel though that the naysayers arre out there even in my paper of sugar iuts just going to take a little research
ReplyDeleteJason, I too found it hard to find accurate information that was the opposite of what I found for the informative paper. Like you I think having another opinion in the paper and being able to prove why your point is better will make our arguments stronger. I think the hard part will be convincing our audience that our point is the better.
ReplyDeleteJason,
ReplyDeleteUnlike you, I think I have some very clear naysayers for my paper. I am arguing that every child, (no matter what race, gender, or culture), deserves a free and equal public education. I used the case of the Little Rock Nine. There were many naysayers from that time! I wish you luck in finding people who will argue your point.
